October 2016 Letter
Dear brethren,
“The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear” (Deut 18: 15). These words Moses said to the people of Israel in the Old Testament, and no person was similar to Moses in many ways except our Lord Jesus Christ, that one time the people said about Him: “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world” (John 6: 14). Christ the incarnate Logos Son of God is considered a prophet as part of His role of salvation, for the prophet is not someone who reveals the future but rather reveals the messages of God to people. Here we observe few of the similarities between Moses and Christ:
Moses |
Christ |
+ Was born to poor parents under Pharaoh’s reigning. | + Was born poor under the Roman reigning. |
+ He was sentenced to death with all the Hebrew children. | + Was sentenced to death with the children of Bethlehem. |
+ Was saved from death in his childhood while other children were killed. | + Was saved from death while other children of Bethlehem were killed. |
+ Was revealed to the people of Israel by miracles and signs. | + Proved His divine power by signs and miracles. |
+ Fasted in Sinai desert 40 days and nights. | + Fasted 40 days and nights in the wilderness of Judea. |
+ Refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God. | + He departed when the people wanted to take Him by force to make Him king. |
+ Liberated the people of Israel from slavery of Pharaoh and Egypt. | + Liberated His children from slavery of Satan and sin and corruption. |
+ The Red Sea obeyed his command and was split open. | + Silenced the storm and the raging sea by His word. |
+ Fed the people in the wilderness by the manna and quails. | + Fed the multitude more than once, and is still feeding us His Holy Body and Blood. |
+ His face was shining after he met the Lord on the mountain. | + On the mountain of transfiguration His face shined as sun and His clothes as light. |
+ Taught the people laws of the Old Testament. | + Taught the people laws of the New Testament. |
May the blessing of St. Mary & St. Mercurius and all the martyrs & saints be with us all.
